Shenandoah National Park - Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail (AT) passes through Shenandoah National Park, mostly following the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range from where it enters the park at I-66 on the southern end to nearly Front Royal at the northern end of the park. The AT is accessible from just about every pull off and parking area in the park and can be used to hookup numerous day hikes throughout the hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the park.
We have never been section hikers of the AT, much less thru-hikers, as that’s way beyond our level of fitness and commitment to that journey, but we are avid day hikers. During our lives, we’ve covered nearly every bit of the AT and a significant fraction of the hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park. We have experienced both the joy and suffering required to cover that many miles of trail, but all of those memories are treasured!
