Hungry Mother State Park
Located near Marion, Virginia, Hungry Mother State Park is at the southern end of Jefferson National Forest. The park encompasses 1800 acres of picturesque forest. Many of the activities at the park involve the Hungry Mother Lake, where visitors can enjoy fishing, canoeing, or swimming. Paddleboats and canoes are available for rent. The park also has 2 restaurants, a large campground and rental cabins.
The park's 12 mile trail system is very well maintained. All of the trails are wide, smooth single track which wind around the lake and up into the surrounding hills. The steep trek up to Molly's Vista is well worth the effort. At the top, you will find an overlook with a view out onto the surrounding mountains.
