Smith Mountain Lake State Park
Created in 1963 by the Smith Mountain Dam, Smith Mountain Lake has been a resort area over the past couple of decades. Many private vacation homes, bed and breakfast businesses, and marinas lie surround the lake, which has over 500 miles of shoreline.
The state park was opened in 1983 and offers many water activities including fishing, boating, and swimming. The park has 12 miles of multi-use trails that wind their way through the woods and along the shoreline of the lake. For extended stays, a cozy campground and several cabins are available.
