Gambrill State Park

Gambrill State Park

Located on Catoctin Mountain, Gambrill State Park features excellent views of the surrounding area from several overlooks located near the park entrance. Picnic tables, play areas for the kids, and a campground at the base of the mountain can be enjoyed in the park as well.  Gambrill State Park borders the Frederick City Watershed to the north, a 7,000 acre forest which contains many more miles of trails that can be accessed via the blue blazed Catoctin Trail and the Yellow Poplar Trail.

Rocks, rocks, and more rocks would be the best way to describe the terrain at Gambrill State Park.  Most of the trails are packed with varying sizes of mostly jagged, sharp edged rocks. We recommend beginner and probably even intermediate riders put on good, sturdy hiking boots and enjoy the trails at a more leisurely pace. This is not to say that the trails are impossible to ride. Expert riders will have a great time honing their skills on the 13+ miles of challenging trails.
