Underhill State Park - Mount Mansfield
During late spring, summer, and autumn, hikers can climb to the top of Mount Mansfield using various trails that surround the base of the mountain. All along the exposed ridgeline, gorgeous vistas of the surrounding peaks can be seen. The Stowe area is known for its beautiful fall foliage and attracts many visitors who come to see the brilliant yellow, orange and red maple leaves. In the winter months, Mount Mansfield opens up its doors as a ski resort.
As you hike the ridgeline, you may notice unusually named points along the trail. One creative observer of Mount Mansfield noticed that, when viewed from afar, the ridgeline looks like a man's face gazing into the sky. (Take a look at the photo tab - one of our pictures shows Mount Mansfield's profile from a distance.) Due to this creative observation, points along the mountain are now named The Forehead, The Nose, The Upper Lip, The Lower Lip, The Chin, and the Adam's Apple.
