Kerr Scott Trails - Overmountain Victory Trail

Kerr Scott Trails - Overmountain Victory Trail

Located just west of North Wilkesboro, the Kerr Scott Lake has several recreation areas along its shores which have various outdoor activities available, including camping, picnicking, boating, hiking and mountain biking.

There are 3 sections of mountain biking trails totaling about 32 miles of single track - Warrior Creek, Dark Mountain, and the Overmountain Victory Trail (OVT). Note that these 3 sections are not connected by trails - It is a short 1/4 mile ride on a paved road from Dark Mountain to the OVM. However, to get to Warrior Creek is several miles on Route 268.

The OVM connects Bandit's Roost Campground to the W Kerr Scott Reservoir Visitor Center. It is part of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail which follows the general path that patriot troops took to the eventual Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780 during the Revolutionary War. The OVM trails are smooth and flowing with lots of banked turns. The Shiners Run offshoot trail follows the shoreline and has great views of the lake.
