Broad Mountain is a 10 mile double track ride in a secluded and serene area just north of Jim Thorpe. There are a couple of short single track trails off of the main loop that lead to spectacular views of the Lehigh Gorge.

The land was sold to the state in the early 1900's and became a state park in 1903. The original furnace is still on display next to the visitor center.

The wide, flat surface makes this a perfect place for the entire family to enjoy a leisurely bike ride. The path takes you through open farmland with views of the Appalachians to the west. Plans are to extend the trail all the way to Carlisle, which would make it a 22 mile long trail.

This trail is an excellent place to take the family - the riding is quite easy as the trail is a smooth, level crushed limestone and has benches and picnic tables along the route.

The trail is an easy, flat ride along an abandoned railroad bed, with scenic views of the steep mountainous terrain cut by the Lehigh River. The crushed gravel trail is at a slight downhill grade from White Haven south. If you want to do the entire ride, a shuttle service provides a drop-off/pickup at White Haven and Rockport.

Read MoreLocated at picturesque Raystown Lake, the Allegrippis Trail System was built by the IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) with the help of several local and state organizations. The trail system flows extremely well, especially the trails east of 7 Points Rd. - they are smooth, fast and have many long sections with rolling hills that give it a pump-track feel. A visit here is well worth the trip.
